Code P0664 Hyundai Description

Intake manifold turning valve is used to increase torque at lower rpm and increase horsepower at higher rpm. Delta 2.7t engine has two intakes runners for each cylinder. The primary intake runner is a long, thin tub in which the intake air passes through. This allows a strong stream of air to blast into the cylinder, helping low-end torque. The secondary intake runner is a short, fat tube. This allows a large volume of air to be sucked into the engine, increasing high-end horse power. At lower rpm range, the engine does not provide enough suction into the cylinders, starving the engine of much needed oxygen. The skinny tube helps blast the air into the cylinder for more oxygen. At higher rpm, the engine has plenty of suction but the intake runner is too small to provide the oxygen it needs. The short, fat tube allows plenty of of oxygen to be sucked in. The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls this function utilizing a intake manifold tuning valve, thereby directing intake air through a longer path for low rpm range or a shorter path for high rpm range.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0664 Hyundai Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0664 mean on a Hyundai?

P0664 indicates an issue with the Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control Circuit Low on Bank 2, meaning the system is detecting a low voltage or malfunction in this circuit.

2. What are the common symptoms of a P0664 code?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, poor fuel efficiency, rough idling, and possibly an illuminated Check Engine Light.

3. What causes a P0664 code on a Hyundai?

Common causes include a faulty intake manifold tuning valve, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, a failed control module, or carbon buildup restricting valve movement.

4. Can I drive my Hyundai with a P0664 code?

While the car might still be drivable, reduced performance and potential long-term engine damage make it advisable to address the issue promptly.

5. How do I diagnose the P0664 code on a Hyundai?

Start by inspecting wiring and connectors for damage, check the intake manifold tuning valve for proper operation, and test the circuit for voltage and continuity.

6. How do I fix the P0664 code on my Hyundai?

Repairs may include replacing the intake manifold tuning valve, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, or updating/replacing the engine control module (ECM) if necessary.

7. What tools are needed to diagnose and repair a P0664 code?

A scan tool to read and clear codes, a multimeter for testing voltage and continuity, and potentially a service manual for wiring diagrams are essential.

8. Can a dirty intake manifold trigger a P0664 code?

Yes, carbon buildup in the intake manifold can restrict the movement of the tuning valve, leading to this code.

9. How much does it cost to fix a P0664 code on a Hyundai?

Costs vary depending on the cause but typically range from $100 to $500, including parts and labor, with higher costs for control module replacement.

10. Will clearing the P0664 code fix the problem?

Clearing the code without addressing the root cause is a temporary solution, as the issue is likely to return until properly repaired.
