Code B1D92 Description

The tilt, telescoping and electronic telescoping column has been designed to be serviced as an assembly; less wiring, switches, shrouds, steering wheel, etc. Most steering column components can be serviced without removing the steering column from the vehicle. The Memory Seat Module (MSM) input signal from the Steering Column Telescope Sensor is recognized in a specified voltage area. The input channel is an analog to digital converter input and the sensor is a hall sensor. The hall supply voltage is switched on when the motor becomes activated. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is set if the sensed input is recognized in a defined voltage area (between 3.7 and 5.0 volts at the controller input, not at the module input) for more than 14 mS.

Frequently Asked Questions about B1D92 Code

1. What does the OBDII code B1D92 mean?

Code B1D92 indicates a problem with the Steering Column Tilt Position Sensor Circuit, specifically that the circuit is registering a high voltage condition.

2. What are the common symptoms of a B1D92 code?

Symptoms may include an inoperative steering column tilt function, difficulty adjusting the steering wheel position, and potentially illumination of the check engine or warning light.

3. What causes the B1D92 code to appear?

Common causes include a faulty steering column tilt position sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, or an issue with the control module responsible for the tilt function.

4. How is the B1D92 code diagnosed?

Technicians typically use a scan tool to confirm the code, inspect the wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion, and test the steering column tilt position sensor for proper operation and voltage output.

5. Can I drive my car with a B1D92 code?

Yes, you can usually drive with this code, but the steering column tilt adjustment may not work, and ignoring the issue could lead to further electrical problems.

6. How do you fix the B1D92 code?

Repairs may involve replacing the steering column tilt position sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, or reprogramming the control module if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to fix a B1D92 code?

Repair costs can vary, but replacing the steering column tilt position sensor typically ranges from $150 to $350, including parts and labor.

8. Can a dead battery cause the B1D92 code?

A weak or dead battery is unlikely to cause this specific code, but electrical issues from low voltage may exacerbate sensor or circuit problems.

9. Is the B1D92 code related to the steering wheel angle sensor?

No, the B1D92 code specifically relates to the tilt position sensor, not the steering wheel angle sensor, though both are part of the steering system.

10. Can I reset the B1D92 code without repairs?

You can clear the code with an OBDII scanner, but if the underlying issue is not addressed, the code will likely return.
