A Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP sensor) is an important component in the engine management system of a vehicle. It's responsible for monitoring the rotational speed and position of the crankshaft, which is a crucial parameter for proper engine operation and timing.

The crankshaft is a key part of an internal combustion engine that converts reciprocating motion (up and down movement of pistons) into rotational motion. The CKP sensor detects the position and speed of the crankshaft and sends this information to the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Engine Control Unit (ECU), which then uses this data to control various aspects of engine performance, such as ignition timing and fuel injection.

The CKP sensor typically consists of a magnetic or Hall effect sensor that generates an electrical signal as it detects the movement of a toothed wheel or tone ring attached to the crankshaft.
