AutoCodesRAM – U11EB RAM

U11EB RAM Code - Lost Communication With Left C-Pillar Impact Acceleration Sensor

Quick Answer

The impact sensors perform their own self test using power supplied by the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) then communicate this status back to the ORC with periodic updates. Common causes include Faulty Left C-Pillar Impact Acceleration Sensor, Left C-Pillar Impact Acceleration Sensor harness is open or shorted, Left C-Pillar Impact Acceleration Sensor circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code U11EB RAM Description

The impact sensors perform their own self test using power supplied by the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) then communicate this status back to the ORC with periodic updates. The repair of this fault condition involves verifying the integrity of the wiring between the ORC and the sensor. This code will set, if the ORC and the Left Side Impact Sensor 2 do not establish and maintain valid data communications. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will become active after the fault has set for a minimum of 2.5 seconds. The DTC will go to Stored after the ORC to Left Side Impact Sensor 2 communication fault has been removed or the suspect sensor has been replaced for 2.5 seconds. The Airbag Warning Lamp (AWL) will set in the instrument cluster.

Precautions for SRS “AIR BAG” and “SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER” Service

  • Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, side air curtain modules or seat belts.
  • Never disassemble or tamper with safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners, adaptive load limiting retractors, safety belt inflators, or probe the electrical connectors.
  • Do not use electrical test equipment to check SRS circuits unless instructed to in this Service Manual.
  • Before servicing the SRS, turn ignition switch OFF, disconnect both battery cables and wait at least 3 minutes. For approximately 3 minutes after the cables are removed, it is still possible for the air bag and seat belt pre-tensioner to deploy. Therefore, do not work on any SRS connectors or wires until at least 3 minutes have passed.

Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

Frequently Asked Questions about U11EB RAM Code

1. What does the OBDII code U11EB mean?

The U11EB code indicates a loss of communication with the left C-pillar impact acceleration sensor, which is part of the vehicle's airbag and collision detection system.

2. What are common symptoms of the U11EB code?

Symptoms may include an illuminated airbag warning light, malfunction indicator light (MIL), and potential deactivation of certain safety systems like airbags.

3. What causes the U11EB code to appear?

The code can be caused by a faulty left C-pillar impact acceleration sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, or a failure in the communication network between the sensor and the control module.

4. Is it safe to drive with the U11EB code active?

Driving with this code may compromise the vehicle’s safety systems, such as airbags, so it’s recommended to address the issue as soon as possible.

5. How can I diagnose the U11EB code?

Diagnosis typically involves inspecting the sensor, checking for loose or damaged wiring and connectors, and using a scan tool to verify communication within the network.

6. How do I fix the U11EB code?

Repairs may include replacing the left C-pillar impact acceleration sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, or updating the vehicle’s software if needed.

7. Can a weak battery cause the U11EB code?

Yes, a weak or failing battery can disrupt communication between sensors and control modules, potentially triggering this code.

8. Does the U11EB code always mean the sensor is bad?

No, the issue could be related to wiring, connectors, or network communication faults rather than the sensor itself.

9. How much does it cost to repair the U11EB code?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $150 to $400, depending on whether the sensor, wiring, or other components need replacement.

10. Can I clear the U11EB code without repairing the issue?
