2004 Toyota Camry 4 Cyl, would it be cheaper to buy a knock sensor part and take it to the repair shop then buy it at the repair shop?

You would have to check with the repair shop to make sure they are willing to install customer supplied parts. Most will not allow you to bring your own part for warranty reasons.
