Volvo does not move forward or reverse trans.light flashing by shifterwas operating fine all of a sudden.

Question

Where is the plug located to hook up the code reader in the car? I have disconnected the battery and it mover forward for about a mile and the it seem to go into neutral againand the shifter lights came back on with an arrow on the dash also came on ? I am a newby here can you help!!!!
