P0040 AUDI - Seat Leon 1.4s 16v

The MIL illuminated, scanner reads P0040, DTC cleared but MIL came on again within next 15-20miles. No repairs to vehicles exhaust pre cat. Wires not twisted. Is it possible that the lambda post cat my be faulty? Can this be damaged by water?
