2003 volkswagen passant is overheating and smoking, code p0456
i tried turning on the a/c and it is not helping . i think its the coolant

The code is an emissions code for a large evap leak and won't cause the engine to overheat. I would check the coolant level, the thermostat and make sure the cooling fans are coming on to begin to diagnose the overheating issue. You should have a pressure test done to see if there are any leaks as well.
