This has happened twice to my 2002 Mazda Pro 5, the check engine light comes on, then the A/T light will blink. If I turn the car off, the blinking A/T will stop but the check engine light stays on. When I hook the car up to the computer diagnostics it gives me a P0705 code, PRNDL input. What does this mean and how do I fix this? Is it necessary to take it to a Mazda shop?

P0705 Trans axle range switch (TRS) circuit malfunction

The PRNDL this is the Park, reverse, neutral , drive, low , switch called the TRS. what happens if this go unrepaired , you may not be able to start.  The reason the A/T blink is it detected the switch in the wrong gear selection, only due it is internal short
