I replaced the gas cap with a Stant brand and I still have the check engine light on. Should I have gotten a Ford replacement cap?

The code will not clear right away just because you replaced the cap even if it is the problem. You need to have the light cleared, then if it returns check the system for more issues. Normally a smoke test is the best way to go if you continue to get the same code.
