How serious a problem is engine code P0401? How long can I drive without getting it corrected?

The code has to do with the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) this device is there to help reduce emissions by resending unburnt fuel and harmful gasses back through the cycle. This also helps the engine burn leaner and cooler.

It can also effect MPG (miles per gallon) if you have the time and money to get it fixed, why wait? but if you dont have time it would not be a big deal to drive a few days without getting it fixed
