My VW Eurovan is getting harder to start, when I turn the key t start, it whines, then I turn the key off and back on, most of the time it then will start, however some times it take 3- hits with the key for it to start. PO171 Bank 1 is the code, a year ago I did change the O2 Sensor's. VW quit making the Eurovan in 03 - 04 but they still use this engine 2-8 in other car's we have 195,000 on it but it still runs great until this problem with check lite on.

Vacuum leaks are the number 1 cause for a lean code condition, There are several places this can come from , the PCV system these tend to deteriate, over time. the engine oil dipstick, , The MAF sensor air duct boot, you can use brake cleaner spray along the intake and note any difference in the change of RPM.
