where does the 12volt supply come from to the crank sensor connector?

i am working on a 2007 Chevy impala with a 3.5 l. engine. I have no rpm signal. in testing the connector there are 3 wires. a 5 volt reference a ground and shouldn't the other be 12 volt supply? If so where does the voltage feed to this wire come from as mine is absent.

HI there,

The third wire is the signal wire from the sensor to the computer. This wire doesn't carry 12 volts, you only have a 5 volt reference, then a ground and a signal wire in between to send signal to the computer. You may have a bad sensor or some type of problem with the signal plate.
