p0300 misfire on ford 6.0

Question

07 F350 4x4 have a cam position sensor that has oil on the tip. Replaced it with a motorcraft one. Still pops the code. Pulled the sensor, still has oil on it. Bought 3 of them all do the same. Oil on the tip. Upsized the rubber o rings on it this last time. Much tighter fit, still has oil on the tip. Still throws the code? Rubbers are in perfect condition, no cuts. Has ran fine for 2 years, this just came on.  Engine idles perfect runs good starts good. Gets 18 mpg at 80 mph 160,000 miles have more than one of these trucks. Never heard of this problem.

Oil on the sensor is normal. There is oil flying around from the timing chain when the engine is running. The P0300 code is for misfiring, not the cam sensor. This code can also mean that the computer cannot determine which cylinder is misfiring. Check the coils, check for intake manifold gasket leaks. Typically if the code is appearing when the engine is running fast, the issue is a coil.
