Hard shift 1-2 o/d light flashing

Question

So I got the dreaded p0741 on my ford ranger 05 automatic.  It bangs into 2 from 1 but drives fine other than that.  Ranger forums say torque converter but I am not convinced.

P0741 TCC slippage detected

When this code set. it may have also been generated by other transmission faults, that went undetected, When the O.D light flashes , the TCM has detected a fault.
