My Wife's Buick La sabre Custom is having an intermittent clonking sound from her transmission....the engine code reads P1811C and says something about maximum adapt longshaft interval/mechanical.

Her mechanic is recommending a new transmission installation and that is an expensive proposition!

What does this code actually indicate is the problem with the transmission and is there an alternative fix other than a complete transmission replacement?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi there

It could indicate there is a problem with the pressure control solenoid in the transmission. It could also indicate the transmission fluid pressure is low, this has to be checked with a gauge.
