P0455 Jeep - how fix it?

Question

I got a jeep liberty 2002 3.7 engine with p0455 and 0442 codes,with an gas odor near to the gas tank cap,how could I fix this,what may I try to fix this,and how do it? I will be really appreciate for any help,i good with hand tools especially en cars,not a mecanic,just i can able to do manual jobs,thanks again,,sincerely  Adrian.

Hi there,

This code is for a gross evap leak. This can happen if you leave the fuel cap loose oroff. You can also get this code if the vent control valve for the charcoal canister is frozen open.You can test this by removing it and running power and ground to the valve. If it's working you should hear a click type sound. If it's good, then it's best to have the car smoke tested and take it from there.
