My check engine light keeps coming on. I have replaced the fuel cap to no avail. How hard is it to replace the canister if that is the problem. Must this be done by Nissan or can any skilled mechanic do the job correctly?

Vehicle: nissan 2005 senators 1.8 s

Hi there,

The canister can be replaced by any mechanic and doens't require the dealer. Many times when you get this code it is due to the vent control solenoid on the canister, so the whole canister may not need replacing.

You can remove the vent control valve, add power and ground and listen for it clicking. If you don't hear any noise it's
no good and should be replaced.
