P0401 Ford - 1998 Taurus will car run fine if dpfe is bad?t

I changed egr valve and solenoid car runs great. If dpfe is bad, would car run fine. Need to know before I replace it. Thank you

P0401 Exhaust gas recirculation flow insufficient

If the EGR system was not working it would take a ECM just to tell you that the EGR system was not working, such as a no to low flow of the EGR system. Test the EGR system for a flow this would be a good indiation of whether the EGR passage is pluged

 With the EGR vacuum solenoid, remove the cap

 With the vehicle at idle, place you finer on the EGR valve, the engine if the passage is clear, the engine should stall. If the enine does not stall. the EGR valve need to be check for vacuum or you have a pluged EGR passage. To clear the passage of the EGR system you would have to remove the throttle body to truly clear out the passage
