Check engine light is on - mechanic hooked up hand held scanner for detection of codes which indicated P1491 EGR insufficient lift. Says 'check tsb and found a ecm update from honda. If update does not solve concern the dealer would need to install and program a new ecm. Does this relate to TSB update? Please advise as to what I can do by way of possible low cost solutions, either on my own or with local mechanic before taking to dealer.

P1491 EGR valve insufficient lift

Updating  the ECM will only work if the EGR is known to be working, and the EGR passage is clear of any carbon build up.

With the EGR located here . you can remove the EGR and check to see the pintle moves freeley. not using to much force. P1491 in mostly the EGR position sensor that is not working properly.
