P0017 Cadillac - CTS - 2009 - 3.5

Question

The service engine light comes on for days then disappears and comes back again with error code P0017. When it is on the engine performance seems to be affected.

Does this mean that I have to change the crankshaft sensor, part No 12613030?

P0017 Crankshaft position (CKP) -Exhaust Camshft position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1

Incorrect position of the camshaft sensor to the crankshaft sensor set this code , what set this condition are either the timing chain tensioner , a timing chain that jump a tooth, With this code condition it  is more of a mechanical conditon.If this exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid is stuck open or closed it can set a full advance to a full retard .to the relation of the camshaft sensor to the crankshaft position sensor.

 There are TSB that Cadillac has put out, TSB # PIP3423K , and TSB # and a Campaign TSB # 10287C which is to reprogram the ECM for premature timing chain wear.
