This only affect the idle speed, and not when coasting on a highway,

The idle tends to bind up which increases the RPM when at idle.

Besides the idle air control , vacuum leaks can cause higher than normal condition, it away good to check for any vacuum leaks such as the PCV hose for any tear or opens, and the PCV valve itself
