P0420 Chrysler -

Question

I have a 2006 Chrysler Sebring with the engine light on. I am getting an OBDII code P0420, Catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1. Can you please tell me what this means?

 What the catalytic convertor does is decrease harmful emission that is emitted into the atmoshpere. The purpose of the CK ENG LT on vehicle that are produced is to do one major job, and that is to protect the catalytic convertor. What P0420 mean that the catalytic is no longer able to do what its purpose is for.
