I have a 1998 Windstar, Northwoods edition, with the 3.8L engine. It has about 140,000 miles on it. Engine runs strong.

3 days ago, the "Service Engine Soon" light came on and stayed on. Stopped by Advance Auto tonite to get the codes checked.

3 codes were found; P1512, P0174, and P0171.

My research shows the latter 2 codes are usually caused by leaking isolator rubber grommets in the intake manifold bolts. I will order a replacement set and take care of that.

Is there a good chance this is also the cause of code P1512 or is there definitely something else wrong?

P0171 Fuel trim lean Bank 1

P0174 Fuel trim lean Bank 2

P1512 Intake manifold runner control

What they should call P1512 is the IMRC (intake manifold runner control) is the linkage to the IMRC fell out, What happens is the plastic clip just fall apart and the linkage falls out. As for P0171 and P0174 these are lean fuel trim code. Vacuum leaks are especially prone to Ford products, such as the PCV hose collapsing , there are plastic lines that tends to break, and there are connection on the intake plenum that bloats and fall out of place. You may even be able to hear the vacuum leaks vacuum leaks Use brake cleaner or carburator cleaner to help locate the vacuum leaks.
