Question

The only other symptom I did not see in this that I have wrong is when I shift into drive or reverse, it makes a knocking noise. Is this also part of this problem or might it be a different problem ?

Hi there,

This code relates to the communication between the ecm and tcm on the car. This will not cause any type of knocking issue and usually replacing the crank sensor will solve the issue for the codes. If not though, then there is a wiring issue between the two control modules.
