So where is the pressure control solenoid located and what does it look like on a 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis.

P1747 is the A/T EPC Solenoid Circuit Malfunction (could have a bad connection)

The EPC is located inside the valve body which is inside the transmission 

you should take it to a transmission specialist
