The code P1642 means that the CAN network had a malfunction. This is due to any of the modules going offline or losing power or ground. There will be codes stored in the other modules on the CAN network (ABS, TCM, Instrument Pack, J Gate shifter, and climate control module). These codes will not come up on a generic scan tool. You will need a Jag compatible scan tool to read these codes.
