Can a bad o2 sensor cause a lean condition on a 2009 honda fit

Yes, if the front O2 sensor is not working properly, then it can cause the computer to set up a lean condition. Sometimes a bad rear O2 will cause this as well, but usually it's the front one. Also check and make sure there aren't any exhaust leaks before the sensor or any intake manifold gasket leaks as well.
