I have a 2006 2.5L Beetle, a couple months agó the battery dripped out liquid and ruined both one of the hoses and the air pump of the secondary air system (of course the check engine light came on). I changed the hose and my mechanic "fixed" the air pump, it worked for a while still making an awful sound when I turn on the car, the check engine light came on again and I feel the car running slow and waste to much gas, I took it to my mechanic again, he said there´s no holes in any of the hoses and the problem could be the air pump malfunction, my question now is, would that be a good reason for my beetle to run slow? just because the air pump is not working well??

if there is not physical damage to the harness, I would just replace the air pump

you can test the pump connector of continuity (should be 25-35 Ohms)
