codes P0441 & P0446 w/ difficult to remove fuel cap, any idea of cause & if safe to drive?

98 Corolla, manual transmission. Codes P0441 and P0446. The gas cap is increasingly difficult to get off. Requires two hands and lots of oomph. Gas cap was replaced in late May. Vehicle passed inspection on July 5. The check engine light came on the afternoon of July 5th and has not gone off since. Is it a hazard to drive?

if you dont have any performance issues it is safe to drive. I would check for cracked or broken hose (due to the age of the car that might be the issue)
