i was driving down a dirt road with my A/C on, about 1 min later, i turned off my A/C, my check engine lite came on. My mechanic said he had to replace the transaxle oil temp. sensor on my 2006 kia sportage. 6 cyl. for 400.00 ! How do i know if maybe a wire didn't just come loose or if i need to replace it ? i won't have the funds for a couple of months, is it safe to drive my car in the mean time ?

Vehicle: 2006 kia sportage, 6 cyl. 2.7 engine

P0711 Transmission fluid temperature sensor

The transmission fluid temperature is used by the TCM (transmission control modue) for TCC operation (Torque convertor clutch) the fluid temperature sensor is located in the valve body and the transmission pan will need to be removed to access the sensor, this usually comes on when the transmission fluid wears out , It is possible just to drain the transmission fluid and add fresh transmission fluid and clear the code. This would be a good alternative if you are going to wait a couple of months
