P1299 Ford -Taurus X 2008

Question

Without warning my ford taurus x 2008 suddenly ran hot, shuddered, engine light came on and engine then cut off. We have found that it is not holding water but are unsure of what should be in the hole that water is pouring out of...the hole is located near the alternator and engine block but is difficult to see...it is a threaded hole

the P1299 just says the car overheated
