Checked & cleaned gas cap and gasket still get error code after reset. What else could it be?

Vehicle: 2006 Ford Mustang 4.0L

P0446 Evaporative emission system vent control circuit

If this code right away after clearing you dealing with the Cansiter Vent (CV) solenoid. This solenoid is either open or shorted.
