P1727 is a emergency default program, this code comes up when you have a misfire. It only allows you to coast, you will not have 3rd gear, The way a scan tool works is all software. When you plug your scan tool to the vehicle DLC (diagnostic link connector) it becomes a host . when it ask for a code to be given form the ECM (or DME)  it gives it ,and the scan tool show only what it has as for its definition stored in it. P1727 is always accompanied by a misfire code, You either have a failing crank sensor , or a charging system not charging.
