I swapped the number 3 coil with the number 2 coil to see if it was a bad coil. This resulted with the same reading, number 3 cylinder missfire. So I then changed the plugs all on the left side. And still the check engine light is on.

Vehicle: 2004 lincoln ls 3.9 L v8

HI there,

I would do a compression test on cylinder #3. The P0316 basically means the computer sees the misfire within the first 1000 rpms. You either have a wiring problem or possibly some sort of internal engine issue. You should also put a noid light on #3 to make sure you have injector pulse.
