How do I fix an Evaporative Emission System leak, code P0442 on a Ford Taurus 2000?

The problem with this code is it doesn't actually tell you which part has the problem. The best thing to do is have the evap system smoke tested and then repair the leak yourself to save some money. It can be as simple as replacing the gas cap or more complicated like a leak in the seal at the gas tank.
