I have a 2000 VW Jetta GLS with a 2.0 gasoline engine and manual transmission. 191,000+ miles.
I had some intermittent check engine lights (maybe 6 months prior). Things like random cylinder misfires, evaporative emissions leak (when the gas tank got low). No noticeable issues while driving, I just reset the light.
However now there is a noticeable miss in the engine. The code is P0302, Cylinder 2 Misfire.
I replaced the ignition coil block. Result, same code.
I checked the compression in the #2 Cylinder (first stroke 150+ psi, topped out at 210-212 psi) and the #4 cylinder (first stroke 160 psi, topped out at 210 psi). I did not check the other two cylinders. Seems Okay.
I replaced the spark plugs and ignition wires. The connection from the wire to the #3 plug was corroded, most likely one of the reasons for the previous intermittent cylinder misfire. Result, same code.
I listened to the fuel injectors with a mechanics stethoscope, all four sounded alike.
I switched the #2 injector with the #4 injector. The injectors looked clean and the seals were tight. Result, same code.
I got an EMC from a junk yard out of a 1999 Jetta with automatic transmission. The number on the case was the same except for the last two letters. Installed it and it hard started and ran rough, I did not even drive it. Five codes came back. I put the original (I bought the car used so I do not know if it had been previously replaced) back in.
I took the #1 ignition wire and one of the old spark plugs and clamped it to a metal bracket. I connected the wire to the #2 position on the coil block, started the engine. I saw spark across the plug gap. I reconnected the #2 plug wire.
I replaced the intake manifold gaskets, upper and lower. Result, same code. I found a crack in a small vacuum hose below the back of the manifold, maybe related to the evaporative emissions leak code (anyway not related to the misfire).
I have not checked/replaced the cam position sensor. If that was faulty I would expect that other cylinder misfire codes to show up.
I have read posts about the O2 sensor and the catalytic converter. However, once again, if either one of them were faulty I would expect that other cylinder misfire codes would show up.
I think I have run out of things to check. Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Okay, I picked up a leak down tester last night and will test the cylinders this evening. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
