i noticed that egr valve was replaced on my equinox and the wires were wrong on the connector . would it short it out ?

i had a egr code and i noticed that the egr was replaced and the wires were crossed and it was installed wrong at the connector . i got the wire diagram and now it write but i have code 1404 comming on now ? did the egr get shorted out by the wires being wrong on the connector ?

Vehicle: 2005 Chevrolet equinox -awd
