ive got a 95 ford mustang 3.8, ive changed t-stat, because of overheating. now im getting a code of p1116, the car is still overheating should i change coolantsensor or what?

Check ur thermostat, fan, coolant temp sensor, radiator cap, or even ur cylender compression just to be on the safe side bout head gasket also being ok.

p1116 engine coolent temperature sensorout of self test range

Description

indicates ECT sensor is of self-test range. correct range is 0.3 to 3.5 volts

Descripion 2

indicate the sensor signal is greater tham the self-test maximum. The IAT2 sensor maximum is 4.6 volts

Possible causes

overheating condition
malfunctioning thermostat
damaged ECT sensor
low engine coolant
damaged harness connector
damaged PCM/ECM

Diagnostic aids

engine coolant temperature must be greater than 10 C/ 50 F to pass the KOEO
self-test and greater than 82 C/180 F to pass the KOEO self-test
