Code P3190 Toyota Description

The Hybrid Vehicle Electronic Control Unit (HV ECU) delivers data to the Engine Control Module (ECM) for such items as power output required for the engine (required output), estimated torque produced by the engine, engine RPM of control target RPM and whether engine is in start mode or not. Based on required output and target RPM, the ECM calculates a target torque that is to be produced by the engine and compares it with the estimated torque. If estimated torque is very low compared with the target torque or engine start mode continues at engine RPM or for the duration calculated by engine coolant temperature, as the abnormal condition is detected. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P3190 is set if following conditions continue at a fixed engine RPM or for a fixed length of time:
-Communication with HV ECU is normal.
-Engine RPM is a fixed value or more.
-Engine start mode is not active.
-Target torque is at a fixed value or more.
-Ratio of estimated torque against target torque is less than 20 percent.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P3190 Toyota OBDII Code

  • I was driving my car 2011 Prius on the freeway suddenly I saw on my dashboard says check the hybrid system. and a yellow triangle on the left and check engine light on the right and a small red circle under it after half a mile driving the car stopped, I garbed my scanner and read the code it showed the code P03190 I checked the possibilities on https://www.autocodes.com one of them was "vehicle is out of fuel" in the end I found out my car was out of fuel but I did not think it was out of fuel for two reasons 1-Faulty gas Gauge: my gas Gauge was showing 3 bars which normally means three gallons of gas remaining that was a wrong message, now I know in my car 3 bars means empty tank .2- It showed on the dashboard check the hybrid system instead of saying "vehicle is Out of fuel".
