Code P2764 2015 GMC Sierra Description

The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) pressure control solenoid is part of the control solenoid valve assembly which has no serviceable parts. The normally low TCC pressure control solenoid regulates oil pressure to the TCC regulator valve and TCC control valve. Increasing TCC pressure control solenoid oil pressure increases oil pressure to the torque converter to apply the clutch. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) varies the current to the TCC pressure control solenoid through a low-side driver. Increasing current to the TCC pressure control solenoid increases oil pressure by closing OFF the solenoid exhaust port. Decreasing current to the TCC pressure control solenoid decreases oil pressure by opening up the solenoid exhaust port. The TCC pressure control solenoid power is supplied by the Transmission Control Module through a high-side driver. The high-side driver protects the circuit and components from excessive current flow. If excessive current flow is detected, the high side driver will turn OFF. When the fault is corrected, the high-side driver will reset.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Transmission Control Module detects a short to ground on the TCC pressure control solenoid valve control circuit for 1 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2764 2015 GMC Sierra Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2764 mean on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

P2764 indicates a problem with the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Pressure Control Solenoid Valve Control Circuit, specifically low voltage being detected.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P2764 in a GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include poor fuel efficiency, transmission slipping, difficulty shifting gears, engine stalling at low speeds, or the Check Engine Light turning on.

3. What causes the P2764 code to appear?

Possible causes include a faulty TCC solenoid, damaged or corroded wiring/connectors, a malfunctioning transmission control module (TCM), or low transmission fluid levels.

4. Can low transmission fluid cause the P2764 code?

Yes, low or contaminated transmission fluid can affect the operation of the TCC solenoid and trigger the P2764 code.

5. How do I diagnose the P2764 code on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Start by inspecting the transmission fluid level and condition, checking for damaged wiring or connectors near the TCC solenoid, and using an advanced scan tool to test solenoid operation and TCM signals.

6. Can I drive with the P2764 code active on my GMC Sierra?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as it can cause transmission damage or lead to unsafe driving conditions due to stalling or slipping.

7. How is the P2764 code repaired?

Repairs may include replacing the TCC solenoid, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, cleaning corroded connectors, or updating/replacing the TCM if necessary.

8. What tools are needed to fix the P2764 code?

You may need a scan tool with transmission diagnostic capabilities, a multimeter for testing circuits, and basic hand tools for accessing the transmission components.

9. How much does it cost to repair the P2764 code on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Repair costs can range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on whether the issue is with the solenoid, wiring, or TCM.
