Code P2761 2018 GMC Sierra Description

The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) pressure control solenoid is part of the control solenoid valve assembly which has no serviceable parts. The normally low TCC pressure control solenoid regulates oil pressure to the TCC regulator valve and TCC control valve. Increasing TCC pressure control solenoid oil pressure increases oil pressure to the torque converter to apply the clutch. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) varies the current to the TCC pressure control solenoid through a low-side driver. Increasing current to the TCC pressure control solenoid increases oil pressure by closing OFF the solenoid exhaust port. Decreasing current to the TCC pressure control solenoid decreases oil pressure by opening up the solenoid exhaust port. The TCC pressure control solenoid power is supplied by the Transmission Control Module through a high-side driver. The high-side driver protects the circuit and components from excessive current flow. If excessive current flow is detected, the high side driver will turn OFF. When the fault is corrected, the high-side driver will reset.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Transmission Control Module detects an open circuit on the TCC pressure control solenoid valve control circuit for 1 s.

1. What does OBDII code P2761 mean on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Code P2761 indicates an issue with the torque converter clutch (TCC) pressure control solenoid valve control circuit, which helps regulate hydraulic pressure for proper torque converter operation.

2. What are the common symptoms of P2761 on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include harsh or delayed shifting, transmission slipping, reduced fuel efficiency, the check engine light turning on, or the vehicle going into limp mode.

3. What causes the P2761 code to appear in a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty TCC pressure control solenoid, damaged wiring or connectors in the solenoid circuit, low transmission fluid, or an issue with the transmission control module (TCM).

4. How do I diagnose the P2761 code in my 2018 GMC Sierra?

Start by checking the transmission fluid level and condition, inspecting the wiring and connectors related to the TCC solenoid, and using a scan tool to monitor TCC solenoid operation.

5. Can I still drive my 2018 GMC Sierra with a P2761 code?

Driving with this code is not recommended as it may lead to further transmission damage, poor performance, and reduced fuel efficiency.

6. How do I fix the P2761 code on my 2018 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may involve replacing the TCC pressure control solenoid, fixing damaged wiring or connectors, flushing and refilling the transmission fluid, or reprogramming the TCM if needed.

7. Is the P2761 code related to low transmission fluid in a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Yes, low or contaminated transmission fluid can cause improper TCC solenoid operation, leading to this code.

8. How much does it cost to repair the P2761 code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Repair costs can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on whether the solenoid, wiring, or TCM needs repair or replacement.

9. Can a faulty transmission control module cause the P2761 code in a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Yes, a malfunctioning TCM can fail to properly control the TCC solenoid circuit, triggering this code.

10. Will clearing the P2761 code solve the problem on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Clearing the code without addressing the root cause will likely result in the code returning and could lead to further transmission issues.
