Code P2737 GMC Description

The Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Solenoid Valve is an electronic pressure regulator that controls transmission line pressure based on current flow through its coil windings. As current flow is increased, the magnetic field produced by the coil moves the solenoid’s plunger further away from the exhaust port. Opening the exhaust port decreases the output fluid pressure regulated by the Transmission Control Solenoid Valve, which ultimately decreases line pressure. The line pressure solenoid valve regulates the oil pump discharge pressure to suit the driving condition in response to a signal sent from the Transmission Control Module (TCM). The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is set when the Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Control Circuit commanded state does not match the actual state for greater than 1 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2737 GMC Code

What does the OBDII code P2737 mean on a GMC vehicle?

Code P2737 indicates a performance issue with Transmission Control Solenoid Valve 6, which is responsible for managing fluid pressure and gear operation in the transmission.

What are the common symptoms of code P2737 on a GMC?

Symptoms may include rough or delayed shifting, transmission slipping, reduced fuel efficiency, and the Check Engine Light being illuminated.

What causes the P2737 code on a GMC vehicle?

Common causes include a faulty transmission control solenoid, wiring or connector issues, low transmission fluid level, or internal transmission problems.

Can low transmission fluid cause the P2737 code on a GMC?

Yes, insufficient transmission fluid can lead to solenoid performance issues, triggering the P2737 code.

How can I diagnose the P2737 code on my GMC vehicle?

Start by checking the transmission fluid level and condition. Use an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, inspect wiring and connectors for damage, and test the solenoid for proper function.

Is it safe to drive a GMC with the P2737 code?

Driving with this code may lead to further transmission damage. It’s best to address the issue promptly to avoid costly repairs.

How much does it cost to fix the P2737 code on a GMC?

Repair costs can vary but typically range from $300 to $800 for solenoid replacement, depending on labor and parts. Internal transmission repairs may cost significantly more.

Can a bad solenoid cause permanent transmission damage?

If left unresolved, a faulty solenoid can cause improper fluid flow, leading to overheating and long-term damage to the transmission.

Should I replace the transmission control solenoid to fix the P2737 code?

If diagnostics confirm the solenoid is faulty, replacing it often resolves the issue. However, other potential causes should be ruled out first.

Can a software update fix the P2737 code on a GMC?

In some cases, a transmission control module (TCM) software update may resolve solenoid performance issues. Consult your dealership for details.
