Code P2720 2016 GMC Sierra Description

The pressure control solenoid 4 is part of the control solenoid valve assembly which has no serviceable parts. The normally low-pressure control solenoid 4 regulates and directs oil pressure to the 2-6 clutch regulator valve. Increasing pressure control solenoid 4 pressure increases pressure to the 2-6 clutch regulator valve. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) varies the current to the pressure control solenoid 4 through a low-side driver. Increasing the current to pressure control solenoid 4 increases oil pressure by closing OFF the solenoid exhaust port. Decreasing the current to pressure control solenoid 4 decreases oil pressure by opening the exhaust port. Pressure control solenoid 4 power is supplied by the Transmission Control Module through a high side driver. The high-side driver protects the circuit and components from excessive current flow. If excessive current flow is detected, the high side driver will turn OFF. When the fault is corrected the high-side driver will reset.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Transmission Control Module detects a short to ground on the pressure control solenoid 4 control circuit for 1 s.

What does the OBDII code P2720 mean on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

P2720 indicates a "Pressure Control Solenoid 4 Control Circuit Low Voltage," meaning the transmission control module (TCM) has detected a low voltage issue in the circuit controlling solenoid 4.

What are the symptoms of code P2720 in a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Common symptoms include harsh or delayed shifting, transmission slipping, poor acceleration, decreased fuel efficiency, or the vehicle entering limp mode.

What causes the P2720 code to appear on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Potential causes include a faulty pressure control solenoid 4, wiring or connector issues (corrosion or damage), low transmission fluid, or a malfunctioning TCM.

Can driving with the P2720 code damage my 2016 GMC Sierra?

Yes, prolonged driving with this issue could lead to further transmission damage, reduced performance, and more costly repairs.

How do I diagnose the P2720 code on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Start by checking the transmission fluid level and condition. Next, inspect the wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion. If no issues are found, test the solenoid and TCM functionality.

What tools are needed to troubleshoot the P2720 code?

You’ll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter to check voltage, and possibly a transmission pressure tester for a more detailed diagnosis.

How much does it cost to repair a P2720 code on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Repairs can range from $100 to $500, depending on whether the issue is a wiring repair, solenoid replacement, or TCM reprogramming.

Can low transmission fluid cause the P2720 code on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Yes, low or contaminated transmission fluid can lead to improper solenoid operation and trigger the P2720 code.

Is it possible to fix the P2720 code on a 2016 GMC Sierra without replacing parts?
