Code P250A 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The engine oil level sensor/switch is normally closed with a proper engine oil level. The switch opens when the engine oil level drops below a calibrated level. The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the engine oil level signal circuit when the ignition is ON, and the engine is OFF. With the switch in the closed position, the ECM detects a low voltage on the signal circuit. With the switch in the open position, the ECM detects a high voltage on the signal circuit. When high voltage is detected on the signal circuit, the ECM will send a serial data message to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). The IPC will then display a message on the Driver Information Center (DIC) or illuminate a low engine oil level lamp.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects a high voltage on the signal circuit for three consecutive ignition cycles, followed by an ignition OFF event from 15 minutes to greater than 50 minutes, depending on engine oil temperatures.

Frequently Asked Questions about P250A 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P250A mean on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

P250A indicates an issue with the Engine Oil Level Switch Circuit, which monitors the engine oil level and communicates with the vehicle's computer.

2. What are the symptoms of a P250A code in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Common symptoms include an illuminated check engine light, inaccurate oil level readings, or warnings about low oil level even when the oil level is sufficient.

3. What causes the P250A code to be triggered?

Possible causes include a faulty engine oil level sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, or a malfunction in the vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM).

4. Can driving with a P250A code damage the engine?

If the oil level is actually low and not just a sensor issue, driving can lead to severe engine damage. It's essential to verify the oil level before continuing to drive.

5. How do you diagnose a P250A code on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?
