Code P2482 2018 GMC Sierra Description

The Exhaust Gas Temperature sensors (EGTS) are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas. Exhaust temperature sensor 1 is the first exhaust temperature sensor in the exhaust system, the following exhaust temperature sensors are counted upward from the engine outlet to the exhaust system end. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 V to the exhaust gas temperature signal circuit and supplies a ground to the low reference circuit. The exhaust gas temperature sensor temperature information is used by the ECM during the exhaust gas particulate filter cleaning process. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will ve set when the ECM detects that the exhaust gas temperature sensor is greater than 900 Ω for greater than 2 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2482 2018 GMC Sierra Code

What does the OBDII code P2482 mean on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Code P2482 indicates an "Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 5 Circuit High Voltage" issue, meaning the voltage signal from sensor 5 is higher than the expected range.

What are the symptoms of code P2482 on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Common symptoms include the check engine light turning on, reduced engine performance, poor fuel efficiency, and possible issues with the diesel particulate filter (DPF) system.

What causes the P2482 code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Typical causes include a faulty exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor, wiring issues such as damaged or corroded connectors, or an issue with the engine control module (ECM).

Can I drive my 2018 GMC Sierra with the P2482 code active?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, it’s not recommended. Driving with this code can lead to further damage to the DPF system or other exhaust components.

How do you diagnose the P2482 code on a GMC Sierra?

Diagnosis typically involves using a scan tool to confirm the code, inspecting the wiring and connections for damage, and testing the EGT sensor for proper operation and voltage output.

What is the function of the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 5 on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

This sensor monitors the exhaust gas temperature to ensure proper operation of the emissions system and protect components like the DPF.

How do you fix the P2482 code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Common repairs include replacing the faulty EGT sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, and clearing the code with a scan tool after repairs are complete.

How much does it cost to fix the P2482 code on a GMC Sierra?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $150 to $300, depending on whether the issue is a sensor replacement or wiring repair.

Can a bad EGT sensor affect fuel economy on a GMC Sierra?

Yes, a malfunctioning EGT sensor can lead to improper engine operation, reducing fuel efficiency and potentially causing other emissions-related issues.

Will clearing the P2482 code with a scan tool solve the problem?
