Code P2482 2014 GMC Sierra Description

The Exhaust Gas Temperature sensors (EGTS) are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas. Exhaust temperature sensor 1 is the first exhaust temperature sensor in the exhaust system, the following exhaust temperature sensors are counted upward from the engine outlet to the exhaust system end. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 V to the exhaust gas temperature signal circuit and supplies a ground to the low reference circuit. The exhaust gas temperature sensor temperature information is used by the ECM during the exhaust gas particulate filter cleaning process. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will ve set when the ECM detects that the exhaust gas temperature sensor is greater than 900 Ω for greater than 2 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2482 2014 GMC Sierra Code

1. What does OBDII code P2482 mean for a 2014 GMC Sierra?

P2482 indicates a high voltage issue in the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor 5 circuit, which monitors exhaust temperatures to optimize emissions and prevent damage to components.

2. What are the symptoms of code P2482 in a 2014 GMC Sierra?

Common symptoms include a Check Engine Light, reduced engine performance, higher emissions, possible DPF regeneration issues, and poor fuel efficiency.

3. What causes code P2482 to appear in a 2014 GMC Sierra?

Potential causes include a faulty EGT sensor 5, damaged wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, corrosion, or a malfunctioning Engine Control Module (ECM).

4. Can I drive my 2014 GMC Sierra with code P2482?

While it may still be drivable, continuing to drive with this code can result in further emissions system damage or poor engine performance. Prompt diagnosis and repair are recommended.

5. How do I diagnose code P2482 on a 2014 GMC Sierra?

Start by inspecting the EGT sensor 5 and its wiring for damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Use a multimeter to check the sensor's voltage and continuity. A scan tool can help confirm sensor readings.

6. How can I fix code P2482 on my 2014 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may include replacing the faulty EGT sensor 5, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, cleaning corroded connections, or reprogramming/updating the ECM.

7. Where is Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 5 located on a 2014 GMC Sierra?

EGT sensor 5 is typically located downstream in the exhaust system, often near or after the diesel particulate filter (DPF).

8. How much does it cost to repair code P2482 on a 2014 GMC Sierra?

The cost can vary but generally ranges between $150 and $400, depending on parts replacement, labor costs, and diagnostic fees.

9. Can a bad EGT sensor cause long-term damage to my 2014 GMC Sierra?

Yes, a faulty EGT sensor can lead to excessive exhaust temperatures, which may damage the DPF, turbocharger, or other exhaust components over time.

10. How can I prevent code P2482 from occurring in my 2014 GMC Sierra?

Regular maintenance, inspecting exhaust components for wear or damage, and addressing exhaust-related issues promptly can help prevent this code.
