Code P2482 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Exhaust Gas Temperature sensors (EGTS) are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas. Exhaust temperature sensor 1 is the first exhaust temperature sensor in the exhaust system, the following exhaust temperature sensors are counted upward from the engine outlet to the exhaust system end. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 V to the exhaust gas temperature signal circuit and supplies a ground to the low reference circuit. The exhaust gas temperature sensor temperature information is used by the ECM during the exhaust gas particulate filter cleaning process. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will ve set when the ECM detects that the exhaust gas temperature sensor is greater than 900 Ω for greater than 2 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2482 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2482 mean on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

P2482 indicates a high voltage issue in the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor 5 circuit, which monitors exhaust temperature for emissions control.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P2482?

Symptoms may include the check engine light turning on, reduced fuel efficiency, poor engine performance, or the vehicle entering limp mode.

3. What causes the P2482 code to appear?

Common causes include a faulty EGT sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, or a malfunctioning engine control module (ECM).

4. Can I drive my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado with the P2482 code?

Driving with this code is not recommended as it can affect emissions, fuel efficiency, and potentially cause damage to the exhaust system if left unaddressed.

5. How do I diagnose the P2482 code?

Diagnosing involves using a scan tool to confirm the code, inspecting the EGT sensor wiring and connectors for damage, and testing the sensor for proper voltage and resistance.

6. How do I fix the P2482 code on my Silverado?

Repairs may include replacing the faulty EGT sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, cleaning corroded connectors, or reprogramming the ECM if necessary.

7. Where is the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 5 located on a 2014 Silverado?

Sensor 5 is typically located in the exhaust system downstream, often near the diesel particulate filter (DPF), depending on the engine configuration.

8. How much does it cost to fix the P2482 code?

Repair costs can range from $150 to $400, depending on whether the issue is a faulty sensor, wiring repair, or other related problems.

9. Can a clogged DPF cause the P2482 code?

Yes, a clogged diesel particulate filter can lead to excessive exhaust temperatures, potentially triggering issues with the EGT sensor circuit.

10. How can I prevent the P2482 code from recurring?

Regularly inspect and maintain the exhaust system, perform timely DPF regeneration cycles, and promptly address any warning lights or performance issues.
