The Engine Control Module (ECM) determines the efficiency of the EGR cooler by monitoring both EGR temperature sensors while the EGR valve is active. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that the EGR cooler efficiency is lower than a calibrated value for greater than 100 s.
