Code P2453 Audi Description

Manufacturers must implement measures to reduce exhaust gas soot emissions. The soot emissions are expelled in form of particle matter. A particle filter or trap is fitted to the exhaust system to store this particle matter. Once the filter reaches a predetermined loading a regeneration process is initiated. The purpose of the regeneration is to burn off/oxidize the soot particles to create harmless carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water. Many additional components are fitted to the exhaust system to closely monitor the operation of the particle filter. These include temperature sensors to ensure the conditions are met for regeneration and a thermal overload does not occur. An exhaust gas pressure differential sensor, to measure exhaust gas pressure across the filter. Occasionally a broadband oxygen sensor can be fitted to measure the quantity of oxygen in the exhaust gas. Some manufacturers choose to fit a fuel injector into the exhaust to inject fuel into the hot exhaust gas stream to raise the temperature for regeneration.
